July 11, 2022

Our club headed up by Dave Siter our president started a High School Trap team at the Taconic Hills High School in 2019.  The team has been very successful in local, state and national competition.
It’s been another great year for the Taconic Hills High School Trap Team.  The team practiced during the spring at the PRGC trap field and then competed with other NYS teams in league competition.

Here are the results for the NY High School League Competition.  THHS came in First Place in the league.  Charles Beck took top Male Shooter in league competition with a 24.8 average and Rachel Ruggles took top Female Shooter in league competition (also placed 12th overall) with a 23.6 average. Here are some others that scored in the top 100 shooters in the league: Dylan Mottoshiski 3rd with a 24.3 average,  Patrick Stark 7th with a 24.10 average, Jacob Cole 20th with a 23.20 average, Robert Burns Jr 50th with a 22.60 average, Zack Wessel 92nd with a 22.10 average.

The Trap Team was funded by generous donations from businesses around the county and individual donations.  The team also held a fund raiser “Trap-a-Thon” to raise money to cover expenses for the trip to the States and the National competition.  Then the team went on to the State Competition in Bridgeport NY, where over 90 Schools and over 1200 student athletes competed for top honors.

At the NYS competition in Bridgeport, the team did phenomenal. The team took First Place with 478 birds out of 500, out shooting the 2nd place team by 8 birds.  In individual competition the team also excelled.  16 of the THHS Trap team were in the top 200 shooters. The leader board was a swept by the team!…. Charles Beck – First, Robert Burns Jr – Second and Dylan Mottoshiski – Third.  Rachel Ruggles came in 7th for top female shooter and 76th overall.  Other team scores: Zach Wessel 6th, Brayden Jause 15th, Jacob Cole 22nd, Patrick Stark 38th, Jeremy Waite 60th, Justin Westfall 84th, Bryce Atwood 101, Jared Piser & Cody Chamberlin 110, Jackson Piser 137, Nathanael Baird 147, Kaiden Klein 195.

The team then went to the National Championship on July 6th – 10th in Mason, Michigan where over 3000 of the nations best shooters competed for both team and individual honors.  After the first day of team competition on July 8th only the top 80 teams would move on the the next round, THHS came in at 78th place so they moved on to the next round of competition.

The team finished 79th overall by hitting 910 birds out of 1000. In the individual competition Charles Beck came in 50th by shooting a 98 out of 100 and Robert Burns Jr came in 135th by shooting 96 out of 100.  The competition is very strong a the National Level and our team has a lot to be proud of.  Congratulations to a great group of young adults.
